A business support organisation which helps people to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams is holding further sessions for employed individuals who are keen to become their own boss.

Last year East Durham Business Service (EDBS), based in Peterlee, held the evening drop-in sessions to accommodate those people who worked and therefore struggled to attend day events.

The sessions, held as part of the North East England Enterprise Agency (NEEAL) and the Enterprise Support in the North East 2 Programme, were aimed at people who had ambitions to launch their own business, but had never taken the next steps because of their working circumstances.

Delivered by business adviser Hina Joshi, the sessions attracted several people who were keen to learn more about becoming their own boss, with some of those continuing to work with Hina to determine if they are in the right position to take the leap.

Following the success of the initial pilot programme, EDBS has now scheduled a further three sessions, on:

  • Tuesday, January 28
  • Tuesday, February 18
  • Tuesday, March 24

All sessions, which are part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will be held at Novus Business Centre from 5pm to 7pm.

Hina said: “The purpose of these sessions is to accommodate employed people, who in the past have struggled to tap into the support we offer due to existing work commitments.

“The sessions we held last year proved popular with people who might not otherwise come to see us, and into 2020 two of the people who attended are continuing to work with us to see if self-employment could become a reality for them.

“We know there are so many enterprising people with ideas that, with the right help and guidance, could become successful entrepreneurs. The key is to make that help available at times that suit them, and hopefully after work will mean they’re more likely to come and see us.”

East Durham Business Service is the enterprise agency for the east of the County Durham area and provides support to people who are interested in working for themselves.
